I Went to a Clothing Swapping Day Party in Brooklyn!

Hi and welcome to JELACreates - the blog! In this first post, I'm going to detail an awesome event I attended that amazingly covered all four topics I developed JELACreates for.

Let's get into it!

That's me! Details on my outfit to follow!

Event

I've been following the Brooklyn Mirage Instagram account for almost a year now. Around last summer I heard of them and wanted to see what they were about. I had also been talking about how I wanted to visit because it looked like such a beautiful venue in the pictures! So, when they posted about the Global Fashion Exchange x Daft Brunch Day Party, I was interested. When I followed the Global Fashion Exchange Instagram account and learned that the party involved a clothing swap, I was immediately ready to attend! Deets on the event can be found here and here (yes, it was FREEEEEEEE - with RSVP).

Fashion

The core event of the party besides the actual party was a clothing swap. The rules were simple and it was a 1:1 swap! I took 10 items and ended up leaving with 7 new favorites. I had the option to go back for 3 more items but the 7 things I picked up were as great as 10. :D

In addition to the swap, there were vendors in the shopping area whose products and services ranged in focus from sustainability to ethical fashion. The event organizers didn't stop there though. A little more than halfway through the event, there was a fashion show! It was a really nice surprise to me because I wasn't expecting that part of the program at all.

Food

I don't have many pictures for this one but there was food and a lot of it! The vendors ranged from Wafels & Dinges Belgian waffles to some delicious tacos and corn on the cob. I ordered the veggie tacos from Guadalupe Inn's menu and I am very, very happy with that decision. I ordered my tacos with cheese and then topped them off with the two sauces they had on hand. One was a creamy jalapeño sauce and the other was a red hot sauce. YUM!

Music

DJs on DJs! The music set a nice atmosphere for the event. Brooklyn Mirage is really cool in that it has an open floor-level area and several rooftop/balcony-like areas. Imagine a multi-level warehouse without the roof and with the addition of palm trees. Okay, got it? Cool. Well add in the New York City skyline, a warm breeze, and smooth yet dancy electronic music. It was amazing and all of the DJs knew exactly what they were doing! I especially enjoyed Juan Maclean's set which so happened to overlap with the fashion show. #VIBES

Tech

Yes, they got techy too. Besides obviously the tech part of electronic music, there was tech in how we paid for food and drinks. We had the option to register our wristbands and link them to a payment card. So instead of paying with the swipe of a card, we paid with the wave of our wristband! I've seen this a couple times before and I think it's so convenient. I also think it's a great safety feature as you don't have to constantly search in your purse/wallet/bag for your card each time you want use it.

All in all, Sunday's event was great. I wonder where I'll find the next clothing swap-brunch-day party....
